COVID

How is NIIC addressing and responding to Covid 19?

The health and safety of all at NIIC – attendees, staff, volunteers and all those working at the venues where NIIC is taking place and living in the hosting communities – is our utmost priority. NIIC closely monitors Covid across the U.S., recommendations and guidelines from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control, the response of states across the country, and regulations and guidance from the host regions. Additional information about our policies for 2024 will be announced by September 2024.

ATTENDING

Is NIIC open to the general public?

YES, all are welcome to attend.

Are children able to attend?

NIIC’s programming is not focused on children. Young people may attend but minors must be accompanied by an adult.

TRAVEL & ACCOMMODATIONS

Does NIIC provide hotel rooms?

NIIC has a discounted block of rooms at our venue: the Hilton Americas-Houston. Reservations must be made directly with the venue and are not included as part of your NIIC registration. For more information see here. Please note that the deadline to book these discounted rooms is NOV 15, 2024.

Does NIIC provide travel support for conference attendees?

No, NIIC has a limited pool of scholarships available but there is no general travel support for attendees. For more information, see here.

Does NIIC have an airline partner?

Not at this time. We welcome ideas about such partnerships; if you are interested in exploring this with NIIC, please contact mrea@partnershipfornewamericans.org.

MEALS

Does NIIC provide meals?

YES, NIIC provides the following meals to all those registered for the full conference or the days in question:

Day 1: Sunday – Coffee Break and Welcome to Houston Reception provided by NIIC; all other meals on your own

Day 2: Monday – Breakfast, Lunch & Coffee Break provided by NIIC; dinner on your own

Day 3: Tuesday – Breakfast, Lunch & Coffee Break provided by NIIC; dinner on your own

All NIIC meals include vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options. Halal and Kosher meals are available upon advance request when registering for NIIC. 

INTERPRETATION

Is interpretation available at NIIC?

NIIC is primarily conducted in English, however simultaneous interpretation in Spanish is available for some sessions. ASL and/or captioning will also be provided for some sessions. Due to budget limitations, it is unlikely NIIC can provide interpretation into other languages. ACCESSIBILITY

Are NIIC’s spaces accessible?

YES. All the NIIC spaces and our NIIC venue Hilton Americas-Houston located in downtown Houston, TX are ADA compliant and accessible for those with disabilities, including those with mobility, vision and hearing impairments. Is NIIC accessible for those who do not speak English?

YES, somewhat. NIIC is primarily a gathering for those working in the immigration and refugee sector, and as such, most of our participants are English speakers. NIIC is conducted in English and all our written and online materials are available in English. Interpretation in Spanish is provided for our MainStage sessions and for any speakers who are participating in any session. Each year, assessments are made about the possibility of additional interpretation support in other languages based on the needs of registered attendees and our budget capacities. 

Is NIIC accessible for those with developmental disabilities?

No. At this time, NIIC does not have specific support in place for those with developmental disabilities, however, all are welcome to attend, including those who may be accompanied by aides.

CHILDCARE & NURSING PARENTS

Is childcare available?

NIIC is unable to provide childcare; minors are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult.

NIIC does have dedicated spaces for nursing parents.

SCHOLARSHIPS

Does NIIC provide scholarship opportunities?

YES, NIIC provides a limited number of scholarships each year. For more information see here.

Is NIIC open to the media?

LIVESTREAMS

Is NIIC live-streamed?

NIIC’s MainStages and some additional sessions will be available via livestream. Stay tuned for details!

VOLUNTEERING

Can I volunteer at NIIC?

YES! A team of ~100 volunteers is needed to power our time together at NIIC. More information about how to get involved this year will be available in June

SPONSORSHIP & LEADERSHIP
