Call for Proposals

NIIC is space for the entire sector working on behalf of and led by immigrants and refugees. In advance of each conference, we host an open Call for Proposals to solicit ideas and sessions from the entire NIIC stakeholder community. This is an opportunity for the whole field to share input about what is most urgent for us to address and prioritize, and to shape the learning and strategizing at NIIC.

THE 2024 CALL FOR PROPOSALS CLOSED ON APRIL 30, 2024.

Thank you to the more than 130 organizations working across 30 states and at the regional and national level that shared over 240 proposals for NIIC!

Notifications about sessions – those that are moving forward and those that we are unable to accommodate this year – will reach all submitters by July 12. We appreciate your patience as our program teams gave all the material thorough review.

In total, ~50 sessions will be featured at this year’s NIIC. For more information about the issue area Tracks and the selected sessions see here.

BACKGROUND & GUIDELINES

Background: NIIC represents the entire spectrum of immigrant, refugee, and displaced diaspora issues from a diversity of perspectives. We strive to have content that is relevant, useful, thought-provoking, and inspiring for a variety of stakeholders from the sector including advocates, academics, service providers, and government stakeholders who come together to share best practices, innovation, and engage in dialogue to advance an immigrant equity and inclusion agenda together.

In each of our 8 issue area Tracks we take a broad geographic approach while elevating the local perspectives and political reality of our host locale. The 2024  NIIC tracks this year are:

  1. Access to Justice (Defending Our Communities, etc.)

  2. Arts, Culture & Narrative

  3. Climate & Migration (Domestic, Regional & International)

  4. Democracy & Elections

  5. Full Citizenship

  6. Nation of Refuge (Refugees, Asylum, TPS, Statelessness, etc.)

  7. Shared Prosperity (Economic Inclusion, Workforce, Education, Healthcare, Language & Digital Inclusion, Housing, etc.)

  8. Welcome, Inclusion & Belonging (Intersectional Identities including Disability Justice, LGBTQIA+ Migrants, etc.)

Guidelines for Track Session Proposals:

Note the following important guidelines for all Track Session Proposals. A limited number of sessions will be selected from those recommended. Notification of acceptance of proposal will occur by MAY 1, 2024 via email.

  • ALIGNMENT: Proposals should cover issues aligned with the Tracks and should be representative of multiple organizations and multidisciplinary perspectives to the issues/content area.

  • ELECTION OUTCOMES: Sessions should be able to take into consideration content adjustments pending the outcome of the 2024 presidential elections. Session content and speakers should have the capacity and build in post November planning time with their session speakers to pivot as needed.

  • CAPACITY: Organizations submitting proposals must indicate their capacity to coordinate all the details for the session – including confirming the speakers, organizing a prep call/s, coordinate with NPNA on final logistics, etc

  • BREADTH: Due to the high volume of inquiries, proposals focused solely on one campaign/initiative or all panelists from one organization will not be considered.

  • DIVERSITY: Across NIIC, directly affected, diverse and rising leaders that represent the breadth of New American intersectional identities are prioritized in our selection of speakers. Proposals should reflect this.

  • DEADLINES: Proposals submitted later than the submission deadline will not be considered.

Speaker Suggestions:

Ideas about speakers to feature at NIIC are also welcome and will be shared with our program teams who make the final determinations. Demographic and sectoral diversity and centering directly affected leaders are key priorities in our decision-making.
