The Power of a Union: Community Site Visit
Dinner and discussion at the Culinary Academy of Las Vegas

One thing that all workers need is a good job -- a job that keeps us safe, pays enough to support our families, and allows us to work with dignity. Immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers are no different, but too few get the support they need to successfully integrate into the U.S. workforce. This gathering will focus on the steps workers are taking together to demand safe and fair workplaces, and the role of unions and allies in helping immigrant workers achieve their collective goals. Please join workers, unions and allies as we showcase successful recent campaigns, share lessons learned, and identify opportunities for collaboration in the long-term struggle for immigrant worker justice.

The Culinary Academy of Las Vegas (CALV) is the country’s leading nonprofit hospitality training institute offering 15 different programs in hospitality work, digital and employability skills training, and language instruction. Its mission is to train people for successful, family-sustaining careers in the Las Vegas hospitality industry. It works to reduce poverty and eliminate unemployment by providing vocational and job-readiness training to youth, adults, and displaced workers.

A bus will depart from the lobby of the Westgate Resort at 6PM on Tuesday, October 5 and return by 9:00PM. The program will run 6:30PM-8:30PM. Dinner will be served in a Covid-safe, socially distanced manner.

Participants are limited to 75, and you must register to attend. Sign up here today!

6:30pm-8:30pm

Consulates play a vital role in supporting immigrant communities here and as a point of connection with their countries of origin. Join us for a visit to the Consulado de México en Las Vegas.

  • Van departs the Westgate Main Entrance at 6pm and will return participants there by 8pm.
  • A light meal will be served at the consulate.

AAPI Caucus** – [Virtual Convening]

This year’s National Immigrant Integration Conference (NIIC) will be held at a moment of coinciding crisis and recovery for the Asian American community. As we look toward the COVID-19 recovery, the Asian American community is grappling with the latest iteration of anti-Asian hate and violence, this time rooted in the pandemic. On the heels of last year’s convening, this year’s NIIC Asian American and Pacific Islander Caucus will present an opportunity for us to build community as we jointly reflect and build upon our community’s experiences over the last year. Attendees can look forward to a panel conversation of Asian Americans leading the work for our immigrant population across the country. We are also planning to have workshops and smaller group interactions led by AAPI organizations, offering opportunities for attendees to hear from the experts on the ground in critical areas of work and offering opportunities to share experiences, discuss lessons learned in our community work, and answer the question, “Where do we go from here?”

To register for the API Caucus, please fill out this form.
