Senator Stephanie Chang, the first Asian American woman to be elected to the Michigan Legislature, worked as a community organizer in Detroit for nearly a decade. The senator also is a co-founder and past president of Asian and Pacific Islander American Vote-Michigan and served as a mentor with the Detroit Asian Youth Project. In the state Senate, Senator Chang is the Minority Vice-Chair of both the Senate Committee on Finance, as well as Judiciary and Public Safety. Chang earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology and master’s degrees in public policy and social work from the University of Michigan.
