Mamadou Sy

Dr. Mamadou Sy has nearly 20 years of experience in U.S. resettlement program. He is the Chief Operating Officer at Lutheran Social Services of the National Capital Area (LSSNCA), overseeing programs in Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Since joining LSSNCA in 2004, he has helped resettle over 10,000 refugees.  A graduate of Cheikh Anta Diop University in Dakar, Senegal, Dr. Sy holds a Ph.D. in Egyptology and is the author of several books and peer-reviewed articles. Dr. Sy is a former Commissioner with the Maryland Governor's Commission on African Affairs, a former Chair of the Workforce Development Subcommittee for Baltimore Mayor’s New Americans Task Force, and a former member of the Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services' Cultural and Linguistic Competency Advisory Committee. Dr. Sy is himself a former refugee from Mauritania, West Africa.
